Flying Abroads!!

Like many high school graduates, studying in Nepal was the last option for me. Hundreds of Nepalese students fly abroad each academic session, year after year. But I was not one of them; what the heck, after losing one precious academic year of my life, I finally settled down for a college right here in Nepal. Studying in Nepal has its own share of pros and cons. Nepalese colleges are still very much dependent on old course materials drafted years ago. Our colleges lack the expertise and the latest know-how on this ever-dynamic field of education.

But who said that everything is perfect abroad. Let’s face it, where you drive fancy cars, sleep with random girls or party every weekend. Nepalese students there face many problems, the number one being the lack of finances; due to lack of proper guidance of the so called ‘education consultancies’. Trust me on this one; I have many friends who have joined community college because they simply couldn’t afford the college fees. Most of us come from middle class families and the education loan provided by banks is simply enough to cover a year’s fee, that’s it. Students try to cope this situation by working overtime and thus hampering their education. This is an example of only one problem.

So, what is it that attracts so much of young students towards abroad? What is that attracts them to an alien land where they know nobody? Let me tell you, for the most of us; the mere idea of going to a foreign land, studying & earning and being ‘independent’ is enough to get us carried away. It’s a fact that only few percent of the students actually go abroad with a strong goal in their head & for getting an international degree. Most of the students see going abroad as an escape route and to taste the fabled foreign lifestyle. So they label it as ‘the dream of their life’ and head abroad. Many with hard work and diligence find themselves closer to their dreams, while many more realize that foreign life is not for them; because many lack the patience, diligence and discipline required for living a foreign life. They face the harsh realities of living abroad.

Anyways, as I am typing this I’m seeing this crisp of a popular education consultancy, who says their visa success rate, is cent percent. They probably will be seeing the latest influx of this year’s students.
